AI Innovation Results Presentation as a Judge: The Power of Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration

I’ve noted that you’ve been involved in translating world-class agile works in Taiwan, including “Zombie Scrum”, and worked with Mr. Lee Shi-Qin from the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Association on this project. Your collaboration led to exploring AI from a Scrum perspective despite initial hesitations due to a lack of expertise in AI. This experience broadened your perspective to evaluate creative outcomes in a new domain not primarily focused on AI.

The Journey of AI Development: From Passion to Astonishment

Reflecting on the past, you initially had a strong passion for AI and devoted much time to it. However, a year later, you noticed a significant decrease in your engagement with AI. This sparked your curiosity, leading you to enroll in nine carefully designed paid AI courses, where you found the content depth similar to your previous studies. Your perspective shifted dramatically after attending an AI association’s event, where you were deeply impressed by fourteen innovative displays of AI applications, realizing the astonishing advancements in AI and its potential to change the world.

At the AI Learning Association event, besides the eight main courses, what stood out was the requirement for each team to select a topic for thorough research. With fourteen teams participating, the event highlighted the diverse facets and application potential of AI. When judging these AI projects, you paid special attention to creativity and practicality, considering the evaluation not just a technical assessment but also an affirmation of innovative thought.

Insights from the Evaluation Process: The Fusion of AI Innovation and Business Applications

In the judging process, you focused on the relevance of the course content, which accounted for a major part of the scoring, while also considering creativity. The evaluation was primarily led by Dr. Du Wei-Zhou, a scholar with profound insights into AI, guiding you to explore the various possibilities and commercial applications of AI. You found yourself particularly drawn to projects that innovatively combined traditional techniques with AI, such as those integrating Zi Wei Dou Shu (Chinese astrology) with AI.

  Receiving the invitation letter for the AI event, personally extended by the chairman, marked the beginning of a new exploratory journey. While we have not yet fully mastered their use, the integration of these tools with expert systems has ushered in a new chapter of learning and application. Each team presented their outcomes, showcasing the results of their learning and practice.

As a judge initially feeling apprehensive about the AI field due to your expertise in Scrum, you gained new insights by evaluating AI from a Scrum perspective. You observed that team collaboration in AI still adheres to traditional project management models and believed that incorporating agile methodologies could enhance self-organization, collaboration, creativity, and product stability. 

   Moreover, the significant innovative potential in AI was evident from the enthusiasm of the participants, with about 264 people attending, showing a strong interest in learning AI.

  Ultimately, serving as an AI judge taught me an important lesson: You don’t need to wait until you are fully prepared to take on a task. When you bravely accept the challenge and give it your all, you can perform the task very well.
